Santa Cards Using Sketch

My oldest son is in preschool this year. I wanted to make his teachers cards that were a little more kid friendly, since they are part of a gift from a 3yr old. I used a sketch from Heart 2 Heart Challenges to create a fun Santa card.

I created this design using the retired White Pines paper pack and a retired Santa stamp set. I added green shimmer trim and used the shimmer brush on the snowflake to add some sparkle.

Oh Deer Christmas Cards

For Christmas cards this year, I am really behind!!! Having a second baby can do that, I suppose. I decided to go with a simple design, but with big impact. I used the Oh Deer paper pack, Complements, and Accessories, and added some bling with shimmer trim and retired Paper Fundamentals Complements.I skipped stamping this year, in order to finish quickly. I had to make 12 cards, and here's what I came up.

I am entering these cards in this week's Heart 2 Hear Oh Deer Challenge, Between the Folds Oh Deer Challenge, and Color My Heart's Color Dare #223.

Unfortunately, I have some bad news. At the end of the year, I will no longer be an active Consultant with Close to My Heart. I will still be maintaining this blog to offer tips and tricks, display my artwork, and offer instructions/ cut guides. I hope you continue to join me!

Thanksgiving Thank You Card

This year for Thanksgiving, we are going to visit my husband's grandparents. I wanted to make a Thank You card to thank them for feeding us and housing us for a few days. Here's what I came up with.

I used a Colonial White card base, and layered Kraft paper and a retired CTMH fall, B&T paper. I also added some bronze shimmer trim to create a dividing line on the card. For the sentiment, I stamped Cocoa ink on Kraft paper using the retired Thanksgiving Wreath stamp set.

For the pumpkin and leaves, I used the retired Thankful Heart stamp set. I stamped all of the items using pigment ink and then heat embossed to give them texture. I then hand colored them all with markers. Finally, I took a quilling tool to curl the edges of the leaves.

Superhero Birthday Card

My oldest son is in preschool this year. He just got invited to his first birthday party for a class friend! The boy will be four and LOVES superheroes. It just so happens that my son had a superhero birthday party for his 3rd birthday, and I already had the perfect stamp to use for his friend's card!

I used a CTMH White Daisy card base and the blue chevron mat is the retired Indian Blue Paper Fundamentals. The circles are several different paper brands from the local craft store that I cut using a Sizzix circle set. The superhero boy and sentiment are from My Favorite Things Super Boy set. You can't really tell from this photo, but the lightning bolt and sentiment have been highlighted with the CTMH Shimmer Brush. This brush adds just a flash of light and glitter to a specific area of your designs.

For the inside of the card I used more of the red polka dot paper to mat some White Daisy cardstock. I wanted to leave the inside blank, so my son could draw his friend a picture.

Autumn Wishes Card

Happy National Stamping Month again! Each month I design a simple card for my Home Gatherings. When I also have online gatherings, I create a video tutorial to share with the guests. For September, I created a simple card using the Autumn Wishes stamp set and Whimsy Fundamentals.

Hawiian Birthday Card

Hello readers! September is National Stamping Month! CTMH is celebrating by offering a really adorable mini card set. You can order yours here.

I am kicking off my celebration with a Hawaiian inspired birthday card for a friend.

For the base of this card, I used a retired paper fundamentals sheet in lagoon. The pineapple was cut from the Artistry Cricut cartridge. And, the flowers are stamps from the retired Blossoming Friendship set. I used the second generation stamping method for to create the two tone look of the flowers.

Roll Tide Birthday Card

My best friend has a birthday next week. She works for the University of Alabama, so I decided to make her a Roll Tide birthday card.

I used a houndstooth embossing folder that I inked with black ink to create a fun texture. To leave room for the elephant stamp, I used the circle diffuser. I would have liked to see no ink in that circle, but as this was my first time trying these techniques together, I wasn't sure how many times to run it through my Cuttlebug. It turns out, three is too many. The elephant and sentiment are from the retired Balloon Animals SOTM set. I embellished with some houndstooth washi tape from Hobby Lobby, and some silver and red Shimmer Trim. The entire card took me maybe 20mins to make, but I think the results are lovely.

USCG Thank You Card

This weekend, I will be attending a tea for the spouses of Active Duty Coast Guard members hosted by the Admiral. I wanted to create a classy thank you card for the event.

I used the retired My Anchor stamp set and thin cuts to create the lighthouse and paper sailboat. The "Thanks" stamp set is from the retired Thanksgiving Wreath stamp set. The large anchor is a Spellbinders die. I cut the anchor out on White Daisy cardstock, and then using finger daubers I layered Slate and Outdoor Denim ink.

For the inside of the card, I layered some more retired Outdoor Denim and White Daisy. The small anchor is also from the My Anchor set. I also used the finger dauber here to create another layer of Outdoor Denim.

Two Simple Cards Using Paper Fundamentals

This week, my husband graduated college and had a birthday! Since these were both perfect card giving opportunities, I got crafty! I wanted to make adorable cards on the quick, so I decided to use the Paper Fundamentals for both cards. I really love Paper Fundamentals, because they can easily accent any paper pack, work together for a fun design, or stand alone.

For the first card, I used an old Paper Fundamentals sheet in Smokey Plumb (retired). I used a Spellbinders die to cut and emboss the circle, which I stamped with stars and a sentiment. The owl is cut from Cricut Create a Critter 2. I chose this color scheme, because they are the colors of Grand Canyon University, where my husband graduated. I am entering this card in Heart 2 Heart's "Four" Challenge, since college takes four years.

For his birthday card, I used Adventure Paper Fundamentals Honey Cardstock. Yellow is my husband's favorite color. I again used a Spellbinders die to cut and emboss a circle. The stamps and sentiment here are a die and stamp set from Lawn Fawn.

Two Cards, Different Themes

Hello again! Today is my son's 3rd birthday! Last night I made him a birthday card in the color scheme (Topiary, Indian Corn Blue, and Pomegranate) of his birthday party. His party theme is PJ Masks, which is a show on Disney Junior.

Despite this show being so popular, Disney has not released any merchandise yet, so I just used the CTMH Balloon Animals (retired) stamps to create this fun card.

I also made a Get Well Soon card for my awesome cousin who has been in the hospital. For this card, I used the colors from the Color My Heart Color Dare #185 and the Atlantic Hearts Sketch #151.

Unfortunately, there are similar cards on both page already submitted. But, I'm going to submit my anyway, since I did participate.

Christmas Cards Using PML Cards

So, things have been super crazy with me lately. I started a new job, which has cut way down on my crafting time. Since, the first Heart 2 Heart Challenge this month was to use a product from the soon retiring Seasonal Expression, and I needed to make cards for my monthly swap, but I have had limited time, I decided to use some White Pines Picture My Life cards to create four super easy, super fast Christmas cards.

I used the same design for each card, but used a different PML card for each. The doily in the background actually is a paper doily that I trimmed, but you could use one of our Cricut cartridges to create your own background.

For the card below, I had to do some adjustments. The PML card actually has a date on it, but I didn't want that to show, so I used some of the border stickers from the Complements set to cover it.

Super Girly, Shaker Card

So, I love a good shaker card, but I have never thought to actually make it clear all the way through. Then, I saw one on Pinterest that was adorable. I decided to create my own original design using this idea.

I used the Kaleidoscope paper pack to create this card. Here's what the inside looks like.

The stamp set I used is the Safari Ballet set, which is absolutely adorable in my opinion.

Coast Guard Life

So, Heart 2 Heart Challenges' theme for this week is "Home Is". The point was to create something that represented your hometown, even if you no longer live there. As many of you know, I am a Coast Guard Wife. When people ask me where I'm from my response is either, "Everywhere and Nowhere", or "Wherever the Coast Guard sends us". We are currently stationed in Cleveland, and today, I was invited to a tea at the District 9 Admiral's house, hosted by her husband. I decided that I would make a Thank You card that represented what I consider my ultimate "home", the Coast Guard Family.

I used this week's sketch from the Atlantic Hearts Sketch Challenge as my inspiration for the design.

I kept the color scheme totally USCG colors, and added a fun anchor cut from a Spellbinders die using my Cuttlebug. The anchor is a great representation for the USCG, and I really love the texture the die creates.

Happy Halloween Witching Card

Welcome back, readers! Today, I am going to show you a Halloween card I made based on this sketch from Heart 2 Heart Challenges.

I decided to create a Halloween card, because I've actually never made one. I used my Cricut Artbooking cartridge, and here is what I came up with.

For the inside, of the card, I layered white cardstock, because the base was black. Then I added a witch's cauldron from the Cricut Mini Monsters cartridge and some more shimmer trim. I left the rest blank, but a sentiment could be added.

I also entered this card for Color My Heart's Color Dare #164.

Loads of Fun Card

My favorite paper pack from the current catalog is Urban. I love the grungy, dirty feel. It is perfect for boys, like my son. This month, my card swap is featuring this paper pack. Here is what I came up with.

So, I have these retired hinges, but haven't had a chance to use them. I thought this would be a great opportunity, because the hard metal look coordinates with the metal feel of the paper. This also makes this card interactive.

I hid a truck and splatter under the flap and topped everything off with some silver foil tape. This card has a really simplistic look, but it actually took a lot of time to complete, because there were so many small steps.

Christmas Cards Preview

Hey there, scrappers! For my monthly card swap this month, we were to create something using the new White Pines paper pack. I'm obsessed with this paper! It is my favorite Christmas/ Winter paper CTMH has ever had! We also have some really adorable stamp sets that match the feel of the paper perfectly.

I used three different stamp sets on the front of the card. The tree is from the White Pines Workshop on the Go. The sentiment is from Season's Greetings, which is actually a really cute penguin stamp set. And, the fox is from Miracle of Christmas, which features several woodland creatures.

To create the fox, I first stamped the image using Black pigment ink, and then heat embossed with clear embossing powder. Embossing the image first helps keep the marker coloring from leaking too much, and it adds texture to the card.

For the inside of the card, I used the rest of the sentiment from the Season's Greetings stamp set. Both sentiments are included on a single stamp, but I broke the text up, but bending the text around a stamping block.

Smiles Friendship Card

The bokeh card is so on trend right now, so I am a bit late to the party. But, today I created a friendship card using the colors for this week's Heart 2 Heart Challenge: Topiary, Lagoon, Glacier, Sunset, and Cranberry.

So, if you don't know how to do the bokeh technique, I highly suggest watching one of the many YouTube videos available. For this card, I created the effect on Colonial White cardstock with Glacier, Lagoon, and Topiary Inks. The focal circles are created using White Daisy. I created a template using Cricut Craftroom, so that I can create more of these.

I heat embossed the smile sentiment using a shiny silver, and set that on top of a cluster of Sunset washi tape and cardboard that I painted with White Daisy. Finally, I added some bling with Epoxy bubbles.

For the inside, I created a Lagoon patch, and stamped a sentiment from the now retired Happy Everything stamp set.

Morning Wake-up Card

Good morning, scrappers! My husband is Active Duty with the US Coast Guard. His schedule is a constant change, and it has turned him into quite the coffee addict. I decided to make him a thinking of you/ good morning card to remind him how much I appreciate all his hard work for our family!

I am entering this card for this week's Heart 2 Heart Challenge: Sunshine. I created the "sun" using canary cardstock that I cut out using a Spellbinders Nestabilities set. If you look closely, you can see the embossed ridge. I am new to using cutting dies with my Cuttlebug, but I really like them! The "flames" from the sun are from the new Fundamentals Gold Assortment. I cannot wait to show this new catalog to y'all! It is awesome!

The sentiment on the inside, as well as the coffee cup and donut, are from the Treats of Friendship stamp set. This set is currently available, and will not be retiring at the end of this current campaign. I have had this set for awhile, but hadn't found a chance to use it. This seemed like the perfect time!

Bumble Bee Birthday Card

Hello again! My best friend has a birthday this week. To celebrate, I sent her this bumble bee birthday card.

I created the card with a monochromatic feel using Smoothie cardstock and ink. The embossing folder is Cuttlebug's Honeycomb. The stamped honecombs were cut using the Artbooking cartridge. And, the sentiment and bee are from the Happy Everything Operation Smile stamp set, which retires this month. I used a little bling to show the bee's path.

I forgot to take a picture of the inside before I wrote on it, so I apologize for the poor picture quality here. I stamped some more honeycombs in the bottom right corner with the sentiment, also from the Happy Everything stamp set.
